MIMESIS

MIMESIS

MIMESIS is a performance and environmental installation that involves the transfiguration of the two artists Sasha Vinci and Maria Grazia Galesi and the creation of a dichromatic green and scarlet red "landscape", as colourful as it is aseptic, familiar yet subtly distressing. The Poinsettias are the undisputed protagonists, covering and unifying the entire space with their flowers and leaves, even concealing the bodies of the two artists. The installation, without defined spatial limits, confuses and disorients the spectator: it seems to praise flourishing and luxuriant nature, but instead speaks of artifice.

The Poinsettia is in fact a native plant of Mexico, where it grows spontaneously in the wild. In Europe and Italy, however, it is grown in greenhouses and has taken on the value of a small decorative potted plant that graces the house for a few weeks during the Christmas season and then dies. There is nothing really natural or lush about this installation, just a mechanical repetition of plants in a monotonous and sterile seriality, which well evokes the dynamics of consumerism and illicit trade. The two artists also adapt to this surreal, flat and silent "landscape", becoming an inexorable part of the gesture of repetition and conformism.
